Byron hinterland

Bangalow

Bangalow is a Federation-era village fourteen kilometres inland from Byron Bay, known well beyond the Northern Rivers for its monthly market.

About Bangalow

Bangalow recorded 2,752 residents at the 2021 Census. Its short main street of heritage-listed shopfronts survived largely intact through the twentieth century and became a drawcard in its own right as the "alternative society" of the 1970s brought new residents, cafes, and galleries to the hinterland. The Bangalow Markets, held on the fourth Sunday of every month, now draw stallholders and visitors from well beyond the Byron Shire.

Bangalow is Bundjalung Country, in the hinterland shared with Byron Bay and Mullumbimby. For matters of language, cultural protocol, or country and family connections, local Bundjalung organisations and native title bodies are the right contact — not this website.
