About Brunswick Heads
Brunswick Heads recorded 1,905 residents at the 2021 Census. Cedar-getters worked the district from the 1840s, shipping timber out over the river bar by the 1850s and 60s; a pilot station established by Captain Simpson in the 1870s helped guide that traffic across the bar, and the river's south arm — Simpsons Creek, where the town's commercial centre still fronts today — carries his name. For a period around 1865 the settlement itself was known as Simpson Town before the village of Brunswick was formally proclaimed on 20 March 1885.
The commercial fishing fleet that still works out of Brunswick Heads is one of the last of its kind on this stretch of coast.
