Ocean Shores began life as an ambitious 1960s American resort development, and is now a settled residential town between Brunswick Heads and New Brighton.
About Ocean Shores
Ocean Shores recorded around 4,800–5,800 residents at the 2021 Census depending on the exact boundary used. The town's origins are unusually well documented: Seattle developer Wendell-West bought the land in the late 1960s, its first project outside the United States, with plans for a 22,000-resident "community resort" and investors including American singer Pat Boone. Those grand plans were scaled back, but the Ocean Shores Country Club golf course the developers built survives — its front nine opened in May 1972 and its back nine that September, designed by noted course architects Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin.
Ocean Shores is Bundjalung Country, part of the coastal strip shared with neighbouring Brunswick Heads and New Brighton in the Byron Shire.
