About Yamba
Yamba recorded 6,405 residents at the 2021 Census. A lighthouse has stood on Pilot Hill above the town since 1880 (the current tower dates from 1955), guiding traffic across the Clarence bar into what is still a working prawning and fishing port as much as a holiday town. South of Yamba, Yuraygir National Park runs down to Angourie, home to a National Surfing Reserve declared in 2007 over its long right-hand point break.
Yamba sits close to the southern edge of Bundjalung Country and the Country of the Yaegl People, whose native title over the lower Clarence River lands was recognised by the Federal Court in 2015, and over their sea country in 2017 — the Yaegl are sometimes described as "saltwater people" for that connection to the river and coast. This page doesn't try to draw an exact boundary; the Yaegl Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is the registered body for Yaegl native title matters.
